Update from February

Dear Classmates,
We are excited to be putting the finishing touches on our mini-reunion in Washington, D.C. April 24-26.

To do this, we need a head count for various activities, and reservations for the celebration dinner.

Because so many of the museums and sights in our nation’s capital are free to visit, we have a lot of attractive options to choose from.

First and foremost, on Saturday, April 25th, from 6-9pm, we have arranged for a cash bar reception and sit-down three course dinner with wine at Tony & Joe’s, a
waterfront restaurant in Georgetown. You will be able to choose from a selection of appetizers, entrees (including meat, poultry, fish and vegetarian options), and
dessert. The cost is $100 each. In order to hold the private event room at Tony & Joe’s, we need to receive reservations and payment as soon as possible.

TO RESERVE YOUR PLACE AT THE DINNER,

PLEASE BUY A TICKET NO LATER THAN MARCH 15TH

BY CLICKING ON THE BIG BLUE BUTTON ABOVE.

You can also purchase a play ticket by clicking on the big blue button above.

All other activities (except the play, which is $49) are free, but we need a rough headcount.

Please indicate if you think you will participate by filling out our Google Form here.

Activities to include:

Tour of U.S. Capitol focused on the 100th anniversary of suffrage for women

Informal get-together at lounge at Kimpton Hotel Monaco

Play, Toni Stone (the first woman to play in the Negro Baseball League)

Bike ride, early morning

Tour of the National Museum of African-American History and Culture

Tour of the Smithsonian American Art Museum led by classmate Amy Sabrin

Class Birthday Dinner

We are still firming up details for Sunday morning options:

1) Baltimore visit

2) Probably DC museum tour

Please stand by for email on those events.

Once we establish who is coming to DC, we will tailor our emails to the attendees only.

Please respond ASAP with payment for our Saturday night birthday dinner and Friday night play tickets. Thank you.

If you have questions, please email Sarah at BeachPlumBlonde@gmail.com.

Update from December 3rd:

Dear Classmates,

Looks like we will have an excellent turnout for our birthday mini!   About 55 classmates indicated that they may attend.

We are writing about the accommodations for our Class of 1972 Mini-Reunion 70th Birthday party next April 24-27.  Many of you will stay with friends in the area.  If you wish to stay at a hotel, we have identified two in the downtown area close to museums and the Mall.  The Kimpton Hotel Monaco is more upscale, and the Hotel Harrington is a budget hotel that caters to groups.  Kimpton Monaco and Hotel Harrington are about 4 blocks apart.  There is a third hotel, The Darcy that is much farther away, up by DuPont Circle, but gave us a reasonable group rate.  April is a popular time to be in DC so make your plans soon.

1. Kimpton Hotel Monaco Washington DC

4-star hotel
Address: 700 F St NW, Washington, DC 20004
Phone: (202) 628-7177

The group rate is for a Deluxe Queen room for $239 a night.  The hotel waives the nightly facility fee (via a credit on your bill) and offers a complimentary wine hour in the late afternoon.  We have reserved 20 rooms.  The rate expires on March 24, 2020, one month before we arrive.  On that date, the unreserved rooms are released for all customers.
To use the reservation link, click on this BOOKING LINK: Wellesley College Reunion

When you scroll down, you will see the only option is the Queen Deluxe room.  The dates and rate are pre-filled.  You can cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before check-in time.

2.  Hotel Harrington

2-star hotel

Address: 436 11th St NW, Washington, DC 20004
Phone: (202) 628-8140
Hotel Harrington staff suggested that we could get better pricing without a Group Rate.  Call them or try booking on Travelocity or your favorite booking site.  Shop around.  There are a lot of options for sharing rooms here, but book early as the rooms may go quickly.  This is a basic alternative hotel. The location is excellent and it is not fancy.

3. The Darcy

4-star hotel
Address: 1515 Rhode Island Ave NW, Washington, DC 20005
Phone: (202) 232-7000
This hotel is not close to the other two unfortunately. We have reserved 20 standard rooms at a $179 per night.  The rate includes the Guest Amenity fee of $25 per night.  The rooms will be released on 3/24/20.  You can cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before check-in time.  You can book here: BOOK A ROOM

Please feel free to make other arrangements as you see fit.  We will write next about the activity options which will include a Friday late afternoon welcome get-together (Place TBD), our birthday dinner on Saturday night, museum tours, a bike ride and the Baltimore trip on Sunday.
If you have questions, please contact Sarah at BeachPlumBlonde@gmail.com or Sarah_marter@alum.wellesley.edu.

We are looking forward to seeing you.

Happy Holidays,
